How to Link Worker Checks to Your SA WWCC (South Australia)

2 min read

In South Australia, Working with Children Checks (WWCC) are managed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit.

To stay compliant, organisations such as Worker Checks or your employer must link to your WWCC by registering an interest through the official DHS Organisation Portal.

Once linked, DHS will automatically notify Worker Checks if your clearance status changes — for example, if it is suspended, withdrawn, or cancelled.

Why This Matters #

  • South Australian WWCCs are continuously monitored by DHS.
  • If your WWCC status changes, both you and all linked organisations receive a notification.
  • Linking ensures Worker Checks (or your employer) remains informed of your clearance status for ongoing compliance.
  • Without this link, Worker Checks will not be notified of any changes to your WWCC record.

🔒 Compliance Reminder:
Under South Australian child-safety legislation, organisations engaging workers in prescribed roles must maintain an active WWCC link and immediately act on any change in clearance status.

🧭 What You Need to Do (Worker) #

  1. Have your WWCC details ready:
    • Full legal name
    • Date of birth
    • WWCC number (if known)
  2. Provide these details to Worker Checks or your employer.
They will log into the DHS Organisation Portal and Register Interest to link your existing WWCC to their organisation.
  3. If the DHS Screening Unit contacts you for confirmation or updated details, respond promptly to finalise the link.

💡 Tip:
If you don’t yet have a WWCC, Worker Checks (or your employer) can start your new application through the DHS Organisation Portal and monitor its progress directly.

🔁 Updating or Removing a Link #

If your employment changes or you leave an organisation:

  • Worker Checks (or your employer) will remove the link (“Register of Interest”) in the DHS Organisation Portal.
  • This ensures they no longer receive updates or clearance notifications from DHS.
  • Both workers and organisations must also notify DHS of certain changes — such as updated contact details or new charges.

📋 Keep Your Records Updated #

Use your Worker Checks Business Portal to securely record:

  • Your WWCC number
  • Verification and renewal dates
  • Proof of linkage (confirmation or screenshot)

This ensures nothing slips through the cracks and your compliance records stay current.
