Start My Check – $49.00Understanding the AHPRA Criminal History Standard
Under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, all registered health practitioners must undergo a criminal history check before being registered in Australia.
AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) has strict requirements regarding the format and source of these checks. Worker Checks is an ACIC Accredited Official Partner, authorized to conduct National Police Checks (NPC) that meet these rigorous standards.
When applying via Worker Checks, select “Medical/Healthcare” as the purpose of your check. This ensures your certificate is processed with the correct codes required for AHPRA compliance.

Common Questions for Medical Practitioners
Yes. Worker Checks is accredited by the ACIC. Our National Police Checks are derived directly from the National Police Checking Service database, which is the standard required by AHPRA for criminal history checks.
Approximately 70% of checks are returned within 60 minutes. However, some checks may be flagged for “manual review” by the police agencies, which can take between 2 to 10 business days. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your registration deadline.
If you are applying for registration in Australia, AHPRA requires a criminal history check from every country you have lived in for 6 months or more since the age of 18. Worker Checks offers International Police Checks for over 190 countries.
An individual Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check costs $49.00 through Worker Checks. This is fully tax-deductible for most medical professionals.
Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you from registration. The National Board will assess your criminal history based on the nature, gravity, and relevance of the offence to your health profession. We simply provide the official record to help you complete your application.
