Resumen general

Why Filipino Workers in Australia Need This Check

If you have lived in the Philippines for six months or more as an adult, Australian employers in regulated industries will typically require an international criminal history check as part of their pre-employment screening. This applies whether you are newly arrived or have been in Australia for years.

This check — also known as an overseas police clearance or ICHC — is separate from the NBI Clearance used for visa applications. It is completed entirely online through Worker Checks’ ACIC-accredited platform without visiting a consulate.

Preguntas frecuentes

Preguntas frecuentes

Do I need a Philippines police check even if I have lived in Australia for many years?
Yes. If you lived in the Philippines for six or more consecutive months at any point as an adult, employers in regulated Australian industries may still require a Philippines international criminal history check. This is standard practice in aged care, disability support, and healthcare.
Can I use my NBI Clearance for Australian employment?
Some employers accept an NBI Clearance for employment screening, but many specifically require an international police check from an Australian ACIC-accredited provider. Confirm with your employer which format they require before applying. If they accept either, a Worker Checks Philippines check is typically faster as no consulate visit is required.
¿Es este certificado adecuado para la inscripción como profesional sanitario por parte de AHPRA?
No. AHPRA requires international criminal history checks from its own panel of approved suppliers. The Worker Checks Philippines check is suitable for employment screening but not for AHPRA registration purposes — check AHPRA’s website for its current approved suppliers.
Does my Philippines police check expire?
The certificate is a point-in-time check with no formal expiry date. However, your employer may require a check completed within a certain recent period — typically the last 12 months. Confirm recency requirements with your employer before applying.
¿Puedo compartir electrónicamente mi certificado con mi empleador?
Yes. Your certificate is stored securely in your Worker Checks CheckHub portal. You can download it as a PDF or share it electronically with your employer directly from the portal — no emailing physical copies required.
What if I need a police check for an Australian visa application?
For Australian visa applications, you need an NBI Clearance obtained through a Philippine consulate or embassy in Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, or Perth). The Worker Checks international check is not suitable for visa or immigration purposes.
