Once a conviction is spent, it no longer forms part of your criminal record and won\u2019t appear on a standard employment police check.<\/p>\n      <ul>\n        <li><strong>Adults:<\/strong> most convictions are spent automatically after a <strong>10-year<\/strong> conviction (crime-free) period.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Children and young people:<\/strong> the period is <strong>5 years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Some convictions are spent immediately<\/strong> \u2014 for example, where the person was under 15 at the time of the offence.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Serious convictions<\/strong> \u2014 serious violence offences, or any offence with a sentence of <strong>more than 30 months<\/strong> imprisonment or detention \u2014 can only be spent by application to the Magistrates\u2019 Court, available since 1 July 2022.<\/li>\n        <li>Reoffending during the conviction period generally <strong>restarts<\/strong> it.<\/li>\n      <\/ul>\n      <p>Interstate and Commonwealth convictions that are spent under their own laws are also not disclosed on a Victorian check.<\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"callout\">\n        <strong>Exemptions \u2014 some roles see more.<\/strong> For certain purposes the fuller record (including spent convictions and pending charges) can be disclosed.
